Athene 3.4 Now Available

Screenshot 14 April 2004: Rocklyte Systems is pleased to announce the latest version of its free multi-platform OS environment, Athene 3.4. Available for Linux and Windows, Athene is able to function on competing operating systems while also maintaining its own independent OS infrastructure (the Athenyx CDROM series).

The 3.4 release of Athene includes the long-anticipated X11 compatibility server, which allows Linux programs to run inside the Athene desktop. The server is 'rootless', which means that X11 programs share the same desktop space and level of interactivity that normal Athene programs enjoy. The need for a window manager has also been eliminated by merging window management functionality into the server itself.

The commercial version of Athene has been updated to include these changes and is now a viable replacement for traditional X11-based desktops. It provides a modernised high performance desktop for Linux while retaining compatibility with the past via the new X11 server.

Support for programs such as Mozilla, Evolution, GAIM and GIMP are currently being added to the CDROM version and for download from our website.
