Athene 3.1 Puts a New Face on Desktop Computing

2 July 2003: Rocklyte Systems is pleased to announce the latest version of its free multi-platform operating system environment, Athene 3.1. Available for Linux and Windows, Athene supports the rare ability of being able to function on competing operating systems, while also maintaining its own independent OS infrastructure (the Athenyx 2003 CDROM series). The 3.1 release of Athene continues to make significant gains in the advancement of its desktop interface. This release adds the following new features:

  • All new high-resolution icon set, including an auto-resize feature to rescale icons to the size of the display.
  • New graphics optimisations and features include fade-enabled icons and menus, translucent effects, selective transparency, fast blending, shadow casting and non-rectangluar windows.
  • High quality image resampling added for the enlargement and shrinking of images.
  • Translucent scrollbars eliminate the obscuring of background content.
  • All Athene desktop environments have been specially revised to demonstrate the new features.

The commercial version, which is currently available in pre-retail form, has also been updated to include these changes as well as further enhancements to its graphics throughput.
